Two arrested for involvement in Newark Shooting

NEWARK, OHIO – On Monday, September 11, 2023 at around 4:34pm Officers with the
Newark Division of Police were dispatched to 131 N 11 th Street on a report of a shooting.
Officers arrived on scene and found two adult males; one 50 years old and the other 35 years old,
each suffering from a single gunshot wound.  Officers provided aid until Newark Division of
Fire and EMS arrived on scene. Both victims were taken by helicopter to Columbus area
hospitals and are in stable condition.

On September 19, 2023 Detectives with the Newark Division of Police, along with Lancaster
PD, Fairfield County S.O., New Philadelphia PD and the Tuscarawas County S.O. arrested Eric
Z Hurst, 34 of Lancaster, OH and Ryan Authement, 32 of New Philadelphia, OH in connection
with the shooting. Newark Detectives are currently looking for a third suspect, Kyle Mathes, 28
of Lancaster, OH.

Newark Police Detectives are continuing to investigate the case and follow-up on leads.  Police
