Newark Police Respond to Stabbing and make Arrest

NEWARK, OHIO – The Newark Division of Police is currently investigating a stabbing that
occurred at a Newark residence. Newark Police have a suspect in custody and are continuing to
gather information about what led to the assault.

On Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 4:42pm, Officers with the Newark Division of Police
were called to a home in the 300 block of Woods Ave, in Newark, on a report of a woman
stabbed. Officers were provided information the suspect is the adult son of the victim, and he had
fled the scene. Officers responded to the scene and to the immediate area to try to locate the
suspect. Officers soon located Cameron L. Bernardo, 24-years-old, in the area where he fled
from officers on foot briefly, before being taken into custody at Hoover Street and Mt. Vernon
Road.

Currently, the victim is being identified as a 49-year-old, female. The victim was
transported by helicopter to a Columbus area hospital in Critical Condition.

Detectives were called to the scene to process it for evidence and to speak with witnesses.
Detectives will be presenting the case to the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office for a charge of
Attempted Murder. Anyone with information concerning this investigation is asked to call the
