INTRODUCING BRAILLE BRICKS at LEGOLAND® DISCOVERY CENTER COLUMBUS

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Columbus is excited to announce today the launch of its Braille Brick activity – a fun and playful way to learn braille.

The LEGO® Braille Bricks concept is a play-based methodology that teaches braille to children who are blind or have a visual impairment.  Each brick in the LEGO® Braille Bricks learning kit retains its iconic form, but unlike a regular LEGO® brick, the studs are arranged to correspond to numbers and letters in the braille alphabet. Each brick shows the printed version of the symbol or letter, allowing sighted and blind children to play and learn together on equal terms. This ingenious combination of features opens up a whole new world of playful learning that teaches children braille in an enjoyable and tactile environment.

To launch this new program, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Columbus is working with Nationwide Children’s Hospital Ophthalmology department to provide tickets to children with visual impairments and their families so they can enjoy this new activity-based learning as well as all the Center has to offer.

“We are thrilled to be able to add this inclusive activity for our guests and promote additional ways to learn through play,” stated LEGOLAND Discovery Center Columbus Marketing Manager Cheryl Ryan.  “We have been working through much of 2023 on the best way to introduce the LEGO Braille Toolkit to our guests and are excited to finally have it become a reality in the new year.”

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Columbus will launch braille brick activity-based learning sessions starting today, January 11th and will run the activity at designated times throughout the day with guests.  The activity will initially run at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily and will expand to other times during the day depending on guest demand.
