INCLINED SLEEPER EXCHANGE EVENT AT LCHD

This year, President Biden signed into law the ‘Safe Sleep for Babies Act’ to prevent sleeping deaths in infants also known as SIDS. This bill makes it “unlawful to manufacture, sell, or distribute crib bumpers or inclined sleepers for infants.” This is a big achievement for safe sleeping advocates! Inclined sleeping or sleeping on a surface with a tilt of more than 10 degrees increases the chances of suffocation in infants. This is because when their heads tilt forward, it obstructs their breathing airways. Crib bumpers generally are padded materials inserted around the inside of a crib and intended to prevent the crib occupant from becoming trapped in any part of the crib’s openings; they do not include unpadded, mesh crib liners.LCHD wants to ensure that in light of this new bill, families experiencing economic hardships can remove this sleeping hazard from their homes and ensure they’re providing safe sleeping spaces for their infants.LCHD is calling all parents and legal guardians that currently rely on an inclined sleeper as their infant’s main sleeping space. We invite you to bring your recalled inclined sleeper to our office on the dates listed below in exchange for a safer sleeping alternative, our Cribs for Kids Cribettes also known as Pack’n Plays. We wants to ensure that infants in our county are sleeping safely and would like to reserve the limited number of cribs for families in need who do not already have a crib or Pack’n Play for their child to sleep in at night.
