Faith Over Fear: Topic at Prayer Breakfast

MOUNT VERNON – The Mount Vernon Association of Police Chaplains (MVAPC) will host the
annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Foster Hall on the
Mount Vernon Nazarene University Campus located in Ariel Arena, 800 Martinsburg Road,
Mount Vernon.. Doors will open at 7:00 a.m. and breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m.

City of Mount Vernon Mayor, Matt Starr will deliver the keynote address entitled Faith Over Fear.
“There is much to do with dealing with fears, anxieties, uncertainty, and suffering that cause us
to run away from our problems,” said Starr. “If we can get ahead of our fears, then we can have
them push us forward rather than pull us backward.”

Church at Chapel Hill Pastor Jon Whisner, who also leads the MVAPC, will emcee the event.
“The purpose of this gathering is to pray with and for our community leaders and public servants
as God’s Word instructs us to do,” said Whisner. “We also ask the Lord for His wisdom,
protection and help as we strive to love and serve our community, lead with integrity, and
unashamedly influence this City for good, righteousness and godliness.”

The event will include a breakfast buffet followed by the program. The Honorable Judge Richard
Wetzel will also swear in new Police Chaplains who will take the oath to fulfill their duties as
Police Chaplains. Title sponsor, Wendy’s of Mount Vernon, along with several other sponsors
will host the event along with the MVAPC. There is a ticket price for the event through Eventbrite
