Wildflower Fairy Trail @ Infirmary Mound Park
May 31 @ 7:30 am – 8:30 pm
The magic returns to Infirmary Mound Park! We are so glad the fairies have migrated back to the Wildflower Trail and moved in today. They were excited to find a beautiful display of spring wildflowers waiting to greet them! Their village will be up through the month of September! And more fairies will be moving in at times over the summer! Will you find them all? This year you can also use the United Fairy Postal Service to write to the fairies. They may even write you back!
To access the trail, park at the Shelter 6 parking area. Visit the sign near the playground and grab a map or print one at home! Follow the signs and map around Mirror Lake to the start of the Fairy Trail. If Shelter 6 is full, you can park at the Shelter 5/horse gravel lot. Find the map here: https://lickingparkdistrict.com/activities/
The start of the Wildflower/Fairy Trail is about 1/4 mile from the parking area at Shelter 6. The actual Fairy Trail is a 1/4 mile loop.
The wee folk wanted us to share some Fairy Directives while visiting:
1) Please be kind to all creatures!
2) Leave No Trace! Please do not leave any glitter, trash, or plastic. These can hurt the fairy friends.
3) Please stay on trail! There are plants like poison ivy and stinging nettle in the woods in this area!
4) Please leave houses as you find them! So the next visitors can experience the magic as well.

Sean Kenney’s NATURE CONNECTS® – sculptures made with LEGO® Bricks @ Kingwood Center Gardens
Jun 2 @ 10:00 am – 7:00 pm

Sean Kenney’s Nature Connects Made with LEGO® Bricks, an award-winning and record-breaking exhibition that uses beautiful works of art made from simple toy blocks to explore animal endangerment, the balance of ecosystems, and mankind’s relationship with nature is coming to Kingwood Center Gardens from June 2 to September 17, 2023.  Produced by Imagine Exhibitions, Nature Connects depicts important topics that the New York artist, Sean Kenney, holds dear, from protecting an animals’ habitat to planting a garden.

Nature Connects further shows that just as LEGO pieces interconnect, everything in nature is interconnected in a delicate balance. The narratives, along with the intricate displays, also explore the importance of conservation, the balance of ecosystems, predator/prey relationships, as well as the relationships between humankind and the natural world.

Newark Strawberry Festival
Jun 2 @ 11:00 am – Jun 4 @ 6:00 pm

Once again, the Newark Strawberry Festival is set to return to begin the summer of 2023.

This festival has become a tradition to the citizens of Newark and surrounding areas. Many wait patiently all year long for this festival, which brings so much fun and excitement to Newark. Rides games, crafts, food, and entertainment provide the entire family with many exciting things to do, see, and taste.

Each year, everyone anticipates the return of one of the world’s most-craved delicacies –Strawberry Shortcakes made famous by the Newark Kiwanis Club and served with creamy Velvet Ice Cream, made locally.

The Kiwanis Club of Newark would like to welcome you to the 37th annual Newark Strawberry Festival. “Strawberries on the Square”  is our theme.

The hours are 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.

A large portion of our local fundraising supports youth activities at Camp O’Bannon and Kiwanis Park.

The camp’s mission is to address the needs of the children it serves-their physical, social and emotional health. Special emphasis is put on developing self esteem through positive experiences, and promoting an atmosphere of respect by emphasizing positive peer interaction, team building and shared community responsibility.
