Main Street Mount Vernon Plans Christmas Weekend Festivities for Downtown Mount Vernon

Main Street Mount Vernon is pleased to announce the 2019 Christmas Festival theme “Christmas in the Movies.” The festival is set to take place downtown the first weekend in December.

Festivities downtown kick off with Lights & Carols at 7 PM on Friday, December 6. Santa will light the tree on the Public Square followed by group caroling. Each carol will be lead by a local musical group. Many talented groups have signed up to participate, but there is room for more!  Contact the Main Street Mount Vernon office if interested in participating. Throughout the event, Christmas and wintery food trucks will be available as well as many local restaurant options.

On Saturday, December 7 from 10 AM – 6 PM, the Christmas Showcase will spread cheer on social media by taking advantage of the various selfie station frames, perfect for holiday photos with friends and family. Many local shops will have a beautifully decorated window display contest.

The lineup of events and entertainment this year will include music from various local musical groups, roving carolers, appearances from Mr. and Mrs. Claus, a cookie decorating contest, a live nativity, food trucks, a kids gift shop, rides and so much more!

Interested in participating in the Jinglebell Marketplace craft show hosted at the historic Knox County Memorial Building? This show is a direct sales and craft show – first come, first serve reservation.  Cost to participate is $20 for booth and $25 for booth with electric – booths with electric are limited. Contact director@mainstreetmountvernon.com if interested in being a part of the show.

Knox County Landmarks Foundation is proud to bring back their Christmas Tree Decorating Contest! This year’s contest will continue to have the amazingly decorated trees by local nonprofit organizations. This time around, festival guests can take home a fully decorated Christmas tree as this year the trees will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

On Sunday the parade begins at 2:30 PM.  The theme is “Christmas in the Movies” and will include prize categories as in previous years. The parade route will come up South Main Street, around the square, and continue up North Main Street ending at the Living Center. Many local restaurants will be open for refreshments before and after the parade.

Sponsorship for the Christmas Showcase made easy through an online auction. When you bid a minimum of $50, you can co-sponsor that activity.  To be the main sponsor, you must bid over the value and remain the highest bidder.

Details for the Christmas season are listed at mainstreetmountvernon.com.

The mission of Main Street Mount Vernon is to energize and strengthen an authentic and uniquely local downtown experience.
