What Is It?

Wade [Music for River and people] is an interactive music installation composed in real time by the flowing river and the movement of people. It is an invitatio for people to step into and create a musical experience with our natural surroundings. Wade premiered in Nashville in April 2018 and received a “Best In Nashville” award from the Nashville Scene.

About Wade [Mount Vernon]

For the Mount Vernon, Ohio, installation, three rivers are used to create the music. The Kokosing River sings the soprano notes, the Walhonding River creates the mid line, and the Muskingum River provides the bass. Using these three rivers, the piece traces the flow of water for its start near Mount Vernon to its confluence with the mighty Ohio River near Marietta. Through the month of August, Wade [Music for River and People] will rise and fall along with the rivers that feed the Ohio Valley.

For an example of the music you may hear, visit Doenges’ Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/aaronhokedoenges/.

Rivers + You = Music

Real Time data about the Kokosing, the Walhonding, and the Muskingum Rivers’ depth and flow is pulled from the United States Geological Survey website and is transformed into changing pitches and dynamics of the piece. As the rivers’ depths rise and fall, the notes also rise and fall. As the rivers flow faster or slower, the volume of the piece grows louder or softer.

At the same time, new musical elements are added and existing ones are modulated as people move over the bridge, throughout the installation space. Motion sensors pic up your movement and us it to change the notes of the piece. The more movement there is, the more dramatic the change. The audience is immersed in, and changes, the sonic flow of the rivers around them.

Indian Mound Mall Puts a New Spin on Back-To-School Traditions
Community celebration and opportunity to give back will kick off the new school year

Indian Mound Mall will help the community kick off the new
school year with two events: Back-to-School Party and Stuff the Bus. During Stuff the Bus, from
Aug. 2nd until Aug. 16th, guests will have the opportunity to support local schools by donating
supplies and resources for students and teachers in need. As a celebratory kick-off for the
donation event, Indian Mound Mall will host a Back-to-School Party on Aug. 2nd from 11am-2pm.
This family-friendly event aims to celebrate a new academic year for local students of all grade
levels, while also showing support for schools in the community. Back-to-School Party will
feature entertaining activities, such as giveaways, craft stations, games and more. Bring along a
school supply to donate and get your picture taken with one of the Paw Patrol pups from 11am1pm in the Food Court.
Indian Mound Mall recognizes the important role our schools play in driving the future of our city,
and we wanted to host two events that support exactly that,” said Linnea Gold, Marketing
Director. “Stuff the Bus and Back-to-School Party truly align with our community values, and
we’re looking forward to not only celebrating with families through a fun event, but also giving
back in a meaningful way.”
Indian Mound Mall is proud to partner with Big Sandy for Stuff the Bus and Back-to-School
Party.
Stuff the Bus and Back-to-School Party are the latest examples of Indian Mound Mall’s
engaging programs and events for the community. This is just one example of parent company
Washington Prime Group’s commitment to creating a community center where guests can not
only shop, but also have new experiences and celebrate seasonal traditions, like
Back-to-School, together.
