Beat the Heat as Main Street Mount Vernon Presents August First Friday

Great food, music and family fun for all at the 2019 downtown First Friday season.  Main Street Mount Vernon is thrilled to bring fun, free, family entertainment for the residents of Mount Vernon and beyond.

Your furry family is welcomed at the August 2nd Dog Days of Summer themed event.  The Main Stage will host Three Rivers Bluegrass, sponsored by Mid Ohio Suzuki Honda Yamaha Kawasaki (Mid-Ohio Power Sports), and the South Stage Entertainment is Soul Legacy, sponsored by Herald’s Appliances and Electronics and MTVarts.  Dunk those Dog Day Blues with COTC Central Ohio Technical College. Meet Jungle Joe and his Crickey Croc friends. Bring your puppy pals for dog treats and giveaways. Don’t miss this PAWsome Event!  Ever wonder what upstairs looks like downtown? Get a sneak peek into “Hidden Spaces” with Knox County Landmarks Foundation in August’s look at historic downtown buildings.

WNZR is hosting a “DAWGUST Costume Parade” as part of the celebration. Bring your dog to August First Friday in downtown Mount Vernon and join the fun and parade!  The DAWGUST Costume Parade will take place at 7:15 p.m. The parade will start at Big Blue (located beside First Knox National Bank, on South Main Street), travel around the square. Each dog and owner will be announced once they arrive at the South Stage. Pre-registration is from 6:30 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. at Big Blue.  You have 3 chances to win: 1 – The first 50 dogs showing up in costume will receive a doggy goody bag provided by Complete Care Animal Hospital. Pet owners are encouraged to also wear costumes! 2 – All dog owners can register their dogs to win a special prize basket! There are 2 doggy prize baskets: one for small to medium size dogs and one for medium to large size dogs. 3 – Anyone visiting the Big Blue location at First Friday can enter to win a special “Shape Up, Clean Up, Drink Up, Dress Up and Soak Up” prize basket.  The prize package is valued at over $240! PLUS, WNZR will have a Doggy Photo Booth setup near Big Blue! Stop by and get your picture taken with your pet!

The First Friday Cruise-In is on the square for the 2019 season.  Sponsored by Storyside Church, this feature, in partnership with Knox Cars and Coffee, brings out the car enthusiast in all of us.  Head up to the square to try your hand at some fun yard games; winners get gift cards!  Yard games are coordinated by the Knox County Board of Realtors.

Balloon animals, face painting, and magic tricks, oh my!  Rex Naylor, balloon animal artist, and Jimmy Bercham, magician, will be in front of Paragraphs Bookstore on S. Main Street.  Face painting by First Church of The Nazarene will be located on the square. Kids’ entertainment is sponsored by Half Baked Cafe and Catering, Knox Community Hospital, and Paragraphs Bookstore.

Farm Friday is designed to showcase our local agriculture and the people who bring it to life. Located on E. Vine Street and the First-Knox National Bank parking lot, each month will showcase at least one animal group.  August is all about the dogs. Farm Friday is sponsored by First-Knox National Bank and Advantage Ag & Equipment. A musical exhibit by Aaron Hoke Doenges Studio will be featuring the sounds of the Kokosing, the Walhouding, and Muskingham rivers’ depth and flow pulled from the United States Geological Survey website and transformed into changing pitches and dynamics of the piece.  “I’m really looking forward to bringing Wade [Music for River and People] to my home town. Traffic will be closed one block north of Public Square, around the Square and on South Main Street down to the Ohio Avenue starting at 4:30 p.m. Rain location for the band is the CA&C Depot, 501 S.
