All My Sons

The MTVarts ClassicsSeries presents Arthur Miller’s Tony Award-winning play All My Sons, opening May 6 at the Memorial Theater, Mount Vernon, Ohio.

An American masterpiece, All My Sons examines the relationships between fathers and sons, the price men pay for the American Dream, the moral and emotional scars of war, and human struggle for moral and legal conscience.  A family drama that established Arthur Miller as a leading voice in the American theater, All My Sons takes the audience to a startling and heartbreaking conclusion.

Joe Keller and Steve Deever were partners in a machine shop during World War II that turned out defective airplane parts, causing the deaths of many men. Deever was sent to prison, while Keller escaped punishment and went on to enjoy both freedom and financial success. Years later, Joe’s surviving son Chris embarks on a love affair with Steve’s daughter, Ann, setting off a string of encounters and admissions that will change these two families forever.

“We have assembled a cast that makes Miller’s post-World War II family come to life in an incredibly moving way that I believe audiences will love,” said Director Ian Fraser-Ernsberger. “I find this play has tremendously rich material that pushes me as a director and my cast as actors – it’s a great honor directing them.”

All My Sons won the Drama Critics’ Award for Best New Play in 1947. In his own words, describing an audience’s reaction, Miller concluded, “The audience sat in silence before the unwinding of All My Sons and gasped when they should have…a mass of strangers has been publicly transfixed.”
